This weekend will mark the 18th anniversary of the 1997 flood event on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. On March 1st and 2nd, as much as 12 inches of rainfall fell over portions of Ohio and Kentucky causing a record crest at Red River Landing, LA and a Top 5 crest at Cario, IL. The 1997 crest at Red River Landing, LA was exceeded again in 2011. Here is a picture from our upstream River Forecast Center showing the flood impacts in Cincinnati, OH.

GUIDANCE SUGGESTS THAT THIS HEAVY RAIN EVENT NEXT WEEK COULD 
POTENTIALLY LEAD TO THE MOST SIGNIFICANT AND WIDESPREAD 
RIVER FLOODING ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY IN OVER A DECADE.

Confidence is growing in the potential for heavy precipitation across the region next week. A mix of rain and snow will likely affect the region Sunday into Monday. A second system will bring the possibility of heavy rain to our area next Tuesday into Wednesday. Stay tuned for updates- details will become clearer over the next several days.
