Only 0.10 inches of rain over the past week here. Scattered flooding rains this week in the metro area have led to a wide range of moisture conditions from wet to very dry. Soils here are dry with some watering becoming necessary. Lawns are generally green which is pretty normal for early August, in fact more lush than normal for early August.

Description:

0.50 inches of rain in the past week and 7.08 inches of rain in July, 4.40 inches of which fell in less than 3 hours. Soil moisture has returned to near normal for July. Most lawns have mostly recovered from the early month dry spell but are beginning to dry out a bit again.

0.04 inch of rain in the past week. 0.14 inch of rain in the past 18 days. Average July high temperature 89.0. Soil is dry. Yards are turning brown. Drought stress showing up in herbaceous plants and shrubs. Deep moisture is keeping most trees from entering into drought stress at this point. Large cracks in dry clay soil. Water bodies have mostly returned to near normal summer levels. Watering is now necessary for area landscapes and trees.
