Phenology Tells Us EAB Is Emerging!

Don’t be fooled by trick phenology.  Today Cincinnati hit 508 growing degree days as measured at CVG.  This is well ahead of what is shown on the OSU phenology website because that uses weather data from Piketon, Ohio. Hardly representative!  One would expect black locust trees to be approaching full bloom at 508 degree days and, indeed, they are at my location.  Black locust is the indicator plant for adult Emerald Ash Borer emergence.

When watering, know what rainfall your back yard got!!!

Kind of ridiculous rainfall patterns over the past week.  The airport has had over 5 inches of rain, while I have had around an inch at Cheviot OH 0.9 SSE and some points to my east had even less.  There has never been a more important time to know what is falling in your own back yard!!!

Ohio: Current 7-Day Observed Precipitation Valid at 6/26/2013 1200 UTC - Created 6/27/13 0:01 UTC

Note:  This appears skewed slightly since we know the airport in Hebron got the yellow band.
