Drought Impact Report

The recent rain here totalled 0.63 inch, most of which fell in a heavy shower along the squall line. Parts of the area recieved an inch or more on Tuesday. This has certainly helped with the drought. However, it is one rain on parched ground, and with little follow-up rain in the forecast, I suspect any benefit will be temporary. We are now getting wind with very low humidity, not the stuff that drought relief is made of. Much damage has been done. The later date and cooler climatology typically slows effects on agriculture and horticulture at this time of year.

Severe drought continues affecting landscapes

I have found that what seems like adequate watering during normal times falls far short in a very hot, dry year such as this.  Information about fall needle drop, drought, and proper watering can be found in the links below.  The current drought is severe and has expanded into most of southwest Ohio.  The good news is that there are decent rain chances in the coming weeks.  However, I will believe it when I see it.  For now, continue watering and hope the rain comes through.
