A major rainstorm here over the past two days. What can I say? The damage from the drought is done but the drought is essentially over. It may take a while for deep soil moisture and ground water to replenish.
The drought is doomed
A flood watch is in effect for the Cincinnati tri-state area. Impressive rainfall totals are expected with general 2-4 inch amounts by Friday morning with higher amounts possible. A brief period of snow may occur toward the end Thursday night. Any accumulation should be on grass with some slick spots possible on elevated surfaces.
Recent tree planting activities have allowed us to confirm that soils are still dry only a few inches down. What we have needed to really break the drought is repeated rains, and it looks like the next couple of days will provide that. In fact the forecast rainfall totals are remarkable. The weather pattern has changed. More rain is in the forecast next week.
