Rain and snow update

As rain transitions to snow on Wednesday, it appears the possibility of accumulating snows (some significant) is on the increase for northern Kentucky, southeast Indiana, and extreme southern Ohio. Still a great deal of uncertainty here due to timing of precipitation changeover and how much precipitation spreads deeper into the cold air, but trends were enough to begin issuing Winter Storm Watches today, and further expansion of these watches may be needed in future updates. Monitor the forecast for the potential of tricky travel Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning!

A great deal of weather coming at us this week. Some threat for light icing Tuesday morning (more on that coming in a bit) but we’ve also got warm air and rain that will spread into the area together and work to melt much of the snow. Rainfall amounts from 1 to 2″, in combination of a release of 0.5 to 1″ of water stored up in snow/ice, means flooding potential increases especially Tuesday night/Wednesday morning before cold air moves back in.
