Today will be sunny w/ temps in the 50s. 40 years ago, however, it was a MUCH different story. Today marks the 40th anniversary of arguably the highest-impact blizzard to ever move thru the Ohio Valley region: http://www.weather.gov/iln/19780126 .
Pesky Wintry Mix Dominates Today’s Weather Picture
It hasn’t been much, but pesky freezing drizzle, ice pellets, and snow grains have persisted in Cincinnati for almost 20 hours, producing slick spots and areas of very light icing. Conditions have improved this afternoon but temperatures still hover near freezing. More spotty icing cannot be ruled out after the sun sets. Temperatures are expected to warm over the next few days ahead of a weather system moving in for the weekend with rain.
Temperatures will continue to average above normal into the first week of February before winter makes a return.
Winter one week, spring-like thunderstorms the next
Thunderstorms with pea to penny size hail moved through Cincinnati on the evening of January 22 less than one week after snow and arctic cold. Temperatures topped out in the upper 50’s on the 22nd.
