Watering needs are minimal in Cincinnati area as rainfall has been generous and more is on the way

Day 9 image not available

After another warm day today, the weather pattern turns unsettled and potentially quite wet for the rest of the week and into the weekend. Multiple round of showers and thunderstorms will be likely, with some spots getting potential flooding concerns and even a severe threat with some of the thunderstorms.

Rainfall over the Cincinnati area has generally been near normal to much above normal thus far in August. With more rain on the way, the need for supplemental watering should be limited to water sensitive plants and new transplants. In general, you can put the sprinklers away and turn off the irrigation for a while. Remember, over watering suffocates roots and often causes more problems than under watering.

August rainfall ranges from less than 2 inches well west and south of Cincinnati to up to over 6 inches near Lunken Airport and part of the lower Little Miami River valley. More is on the way.
